We moved in!
I hope to write more about the process, but since we've been in the apartment that we'll be living in for the next year or more for a week, I wanted to quickly share some info & photos.
We landed a lease in an apartment in Getxo, which is a suburb of Bilbao! It's a three bedroom apartment, right on a bike lane, fully furnished (reduced move in costs & work!!!), 10 minute walk to metro, and within a 15 minute walk of grocery stores, restaurants, pet stores, a whole little downtown area with most of what you need regularly.

The biggest drawback of this apartment is that we live on the 3rd floor (which is the 4th floor in the American way of thinking about floors) and the elevator is under construction. And may be for another month or two. So, eventually, we'll have an awesome, brand new elevator to get us up to our apartment. But, for now, four flights of stairs separate the apartment from the ground floor. It can be daunting, especially if you're needing to bring things up or down.
One of the not insignificant reasons we chose this location is that there's an active queer/neurodivergent and adjacent American immigrant community, mostly of folks who are escaping the US for similar reasons as us, who socialize and support each other. It's truly priceless to have a community of folks welcome us in, want us to be here, and show up for us in so many ways just even in the time we've been here. Including helping us get our luggage that had been on storage up those four flights of stairs. With the six of us (three helpers and Morgan, Tui, and I), it took us less than 15 minutes to get something like 11 bags, a wheelchair, and a folding bike, up those four flights of stairs.
